Dr. Pelbreton Balfour

Pelbreton (Pel) C. Balfour Jr. MD, MSc is a board-certified cardiologist with subspecialty training in Advanced cardiac imaging. After receiving his BA from Brown University and his Doctorate of Medicine from the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Medicine, Dr. Balfour completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University Of Virginia School Of Medicine. 

He then completed the T-32 Clinical and Research Cardiology Fellowship Training Program at Wake Forest School of Medicine where he received a Master’s Degree in Clinical and Population Translational Science.  He then returned to the University of Virginia to complete a 2-year advanced cardiovascular imaging fellowship. He has been the recipient of several research training grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), awarded numerous presentation and travel awards, and published several peer-reviewed articles. In 2017, Dr. Balfour joined Baptist Heart & Vascular Institute in Pensacola, Florida.  Dr. Balfour specializes in cardiovascular risk reduction, hypertensive heart disease, cardio- oncology, and advanced cardiac imaging.

Dr. Balfour is a Certified Hypertension Specialist and HF-Cert. Dr. Balfour remains very active in research as site Principal Investigator for several clinical trials and serves as one of the physician champions for the Baptist Heart Failure Clinic.  Dr. Balfour was recently elected to serve on the Board of Directors of the Baptist Healthcare Foundation. He is a proud member of the Association of Black Cardiologists (ABC), American College of Cardiology (ACC), American Heart Association (AHA), American Society for Preventive Cardiology, Heart Failure Society of America (HFSA), and Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (SCMR).  Fun Facts- Born in Washington, DC but grew up in Trinidad and Tobago. Avid Athlete-Played Basketball and Soccer. Ran Track and Field in College. Joined the Brown Cricket Club Senior year.
